The UK immigration system is
undergoing a massive transformation. As of 22nd July 2025, over 180
jobs will be removed from the Skilled Worker visa list, and the new
Temporary Shortage Occupation List (TSL) will come into effect.

What Is the Temporary Shortage List (TSL)?
The Temporary Shortage Occupation
List (TSL) is a condensed version of the old ISL. It includes a limited
number of critical roles needed to support essential UK infrastructure and
industries.
✅
Key Jobs in the TSL (from July 2025):
- Construction roles:
Bricklayers, roofers, carpenters, painters
- Arts:
Dancers, choreographers, musicians, artists
- IT Support:
IT operations technicians, user support
- Healthcare:
Lab technicians, clinical coders
- Engineering technicians
- Business roles:
Data analysts, financial administrators
- Welders, electricians, plumbers
- Vehicle technicians and mechanics
- Marketing and HR associates
🔎 Note: Even though these jobs are listed in TSL, they come
with limitations—no dependents (if under RQF level 6) and no
discounts.
📈 New Salary Thresholds (Effective July 22, 2025)
If your job remains eligible under
the Skilled Worker route (not removed), updated salary thresholds apply:
- General threshold:
£38,700 → £41,700
- PhD threshold:
£34,830 → £37,500
- New entrants (e.g., fresh graduates): £30,960 → £33,400
If your visa was granted before
April 2024, transitional rates apply:
- £29,000 → £31,300
- £26,000 → £28,200
📌 Those under these new thresholds must ensure their
employment offers meet or exceed the updated minimums.
📋 TSL vs. Full Skilled Worker Eligibility
Even if your job is not in the TSL, you
may still qualify for a Skilled Worker visa if:
- Your job is in the updated Appendix Skilled
Occupation list
- You meet the minimum salary threshold
- You satisfy the English language and points-based
criteria (70 points)
However, you will not be eligible
for any fee or salary concessions.
💡 How to Check If Your Job Is Affected
Here’s how to check if your job is
still valid under the new rules:
- Visit the UK Home Office Skilled Worker Visa list
- Search for your job title using SOC 2020 codes
- Identify whether it's in:
- TSL (Temporary Shortage List) — limited benefits
- Skilled Occupation List — standard eligibility
- Removed list
— ❌ no longer eligible
For jobs removed, your only options
may include:
- Switching to a student or dependent visa (if eligible)
- Seeking employment in a higher-skilled category

One major unanswered question: Will
TSL workers be allowed to renew visas after 2026?
This concern will be addressed in
upcoming Q&A sessions with immigration lawyers like Armell. Stay

TSL.
📌 Final Thoughts
These changes signal a major
shift in how the UK handles skilled immigration.
✅ If you're already in the UK with a Skilled Worker visa, you
may continue as normal—as long as your job hasn’t been removed.
❌ If you are outside the UK and your job has been removed or
downgraded, you may no longer qualify to migrate through this route.
Now more than ever, it's important
to:
- Regularly check the updated job lists
- Seek professional advice
- Ensure your job offer meets all salary and skill
criteria
